1.60: Feurio! CD-Manager: - MP3
Functionality Revised:
We are working on completely revising all the individual "Functional blocks"
of Feurio! and while doing so, have been implementing as many user requests as
possible.
In this version, the MP3 functionality of Feurio! has been completely revised:
No more ".framepos" files:
Until now, Feurio! set up a "framepos" file for every mp3 file that contained
information for positioning within the mp3 file. Many users have complained about
these files.
So we have completely revised the mp3 control: from now on, there are no more
"framepos" files! The information is now stored in the project files.
The framepos files created by Feurio! until now can all be deleted.
Handling defective mp3s:
Until now, Feurio! has rejected defective mp3s (quite right really). We have
now integrated an extended analysis of defective mp3 files. The analysis shows
precisely what type of defect there is (e.g. it shows the number of defective
frames) and in most cases makes it possible to still use the defective file -
of course with the proviso that the defective frames will be noticeable through
e.g. noise interruptions.
Support of mp3s, which are not available in CD format:
As of now, Feurio! can also process mp3s that are not available in CD format
(44.1 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo) and burn them on CD. The files are automatically converted
(see below).
Thus Feurio! carries out several conversion steps at once (mp3 decoding, sample
rate conversion and maybe level adaptation). Due to the optimized programming,
this is still possible "on-the-fly" during burning with no problem - i.e. no
more time consuming conversion of the files is necessary - the files can be used
directly!
- Automatic Conversion of Wave Files not available in
CD format:
Until now, Feurio! has only been capable of processing mp3-/Wave files available
in CD format (44.1 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo).
We have now extended Feurio! so that it now accepts ALL types of Wave or mp3
files and automatically converts them into CD format (44.1 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo)
- thus e.g. mono files or files with a lower sample frequency can be burned.
The conversion is carried out "on-the-fly" when burning the files!
NOTE: A CD-Player can only play tracks in the format 44.1 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
- so Feurio converts the files into this format! As a result of this, e.g. a
mono file is correspondingly "blown up" - there just is no mono CD, i.e. thus
unfortunately a 140 minute Mono-CD cannot be converted.
Of course this does not improve the quality - if you use a file e.g. with 12
kHz, 8-Bit, Mono on CD, do not be surprised if the result does not "sound" particularly
good.
- Minor details:
Record function: Problems with soundcard selection:
Unfortunately the drivers of some soundcards do not appear to be programmed correctly,
some of them can not be selected using the soundcard selection of the record
function. In most cases, the reason for this is that the soundcards do NOT return
the flag they can record in the format: 44.1 kHz, Stereo, 16-Bit (required for
audio CDs) - until now, Feurio! has only shown cards that say they can work with
this format.
For this reason, an additional entry in the soundcard selection has been included:
"<< Mapper >>". When selecting this entry, the soundcard set as the
preferred source for audio recording given in the Windows system control is used.
Prevention of Multiple CDDB Requests / Multiple entries of the data in the CDDB
Cache:
Under certain circumstances, Feurio! can get stuck in an "Infinite Request Loop",
i.e. kept on requesting the same CD over and over again and has entered it into
the database "CDDB Cache" several times.
Therefore we have included a function that prevents a renewed CDDB Request for
the same CD for a period of 30 minutes (Exception: Manual new request via: "Include
CD in request list again"). This list is of course reset when the CDDB parameters
are changed (i.e. selection of another CDDB server).
Furthermore, a duplicate entry of the same CD in the "CDDB Cache" databases (after
a renewed CDDB Request) is prevented as of now.
Packing / Unpacking Tracks -> space holders in path:
As of now, when using the function packing/unpacking tracks, space holders
can also be used in the path definition (analog to the "Copy Tracks" function).
- Error Corrections:
Display of C2 error information when reading out (under "Special Parameters"
-> "C2 error messages" -> "Display information message when a C2 error
occurs") did not always work correctly -> Corrected
Reading with the options "Read Index 0" and "Auto-Detected Linked Tracks" sometimes
led to defective projects -> Corrected.
Furthermore we have included a warning if the options "Read Index 0" and "Auto-Detect
Linked Tracks" or "Read Tracks Individually" has been selected as - due to the
principle - the Index 0 data can only be read 100% correctly in connection with
the option "Read Tracks Linked".
Feurio! CD-Writer: - Problem:
IDE-CD-Writer, DMA and CD-TEXT:
Unfortunately there have been several problems with IDE-CD-Writers, if DMA mode
is activated and CD Text is to be written: On some systems the system crashes
when writing the Lead-in.
The reasons for this are faulty IDE Busmaster drivers. To write CD Text, an "unusual"
block size (96 bytes per sector) is used. It would appear that many busmaster
drivers are unable to cope with this.
We have now tried to include a few "tricks" to transfer the data to the driver
in a "more digestible" fashion. Please let us know if this has improved writing
CD Text. It could of course also mean that these tricks make writing CD text
not work on other systems - in this case please also send us a message!
Just to clarify the situation again: This is/was not an error in Feurio! - It
is an error in many IDE Busmaster drivers which were probably only tested by
the manufacturer with "usual" data block sizes - and still contain errors which
only occur with "unusual" block sizes.
If writing CD text with active busmaster drive operation does not work with this
version either, we can only continue to advise you to deactivate busmaster operation
and to urge the vendor to finally correct the driver.

- Error Corrections:
When "Rescan SCSI-BUS" was called up in "Multiple-Write" mode, sometimes Feurio!
crashed -> corrected.
Problem with old 2x-CD writers (e.g. Philips CDD 3600):
Unfortunately an error has crept in with writers again which we have no test
models for:
For the writers of Philips CDD 3600 / HP 7100 there was no where to choose the
speed - thus a write process without selecting the speed was of course also not
possible.
Reason for this: In the new version, Feurio! asks the writer for the maximum
permissible speed for the medium inserted and limits the speed selection list
accordingly. Unfortunately these writers give a value of zero so that Feurio!
could not find a valid write speed.
