Version History

Version 1.50:

Feurio! CD-Manager:

  • Integrated, high quality mp3-Decoder-Codec:
As of now Feurio! has an integrated mp3 decoder codec (licensed from the Fraunhofer IIS) and is thus no longer dependent on an external codec. This should also improve the quality of the playback of mp3 files.
This means that Feurio! can now play back mp3 files now WITHOUT external programs and burn on-the-fly onto CDs!
To CREATE mp3 files however, an external Codec is still necessary - an integrated encoder codec is far too expensive!

  • Feurio! CD-Player: Digital Playback introduced:
A mode "Digital Playback" has additionally been included in the Feurio! CD-Player. In this mode the CD-Player reads the data digitally from the CD-ROM (i.e. via the SCSI or IDE-BUS) and then sends them to the soundcard. In this way it is possible to play back from CD-ROMs / CD burners whose audio output is NOT connected to the soundcard.

  • Volume control for CD/Wave-Player:
The Wave-Player has now got a volume control.
Caution: The volume control only works correctly if setting the volume is supported by the soundcard!

  • Search function implemented:
In the view Database, a full-text search function has been implemented.

  • Lame-Encoder: VBR and Joint-Stereo implemented:
If the LAME-Encoder as of Version 3.66 is implemented, then from now on mp3s in "Joint Stereo" and/or "Variable Bit Rate (VBR)" mode can also be created.
To activate the new mode, "Program" -> "Program-Parameters" -> "Mp3-settings" Box: "Create mp3 files", Button: "Settings" has to be called up once. If Lame Version 3.66 has not been installed yet, then the correct path for Lame 3.66 has to be given here!

  • Sort code implemented:
A sort code can be given in the database editor not only for the CD but also for the track artist; sorting in the database view is carried out according to this sort code. Using this, you can make sure that, for example, "Bob Dylan" is filed under "D".

  • Further sort options:
In the database view there are now extended sort options available (e.g. playing time, purchase date etc.)!

  • Autostart of the Windows CD-Player is prevented by Feurio!:
As of now Feurio! prevents the Windows CD-Player starting automatically, providing Feurio! is active (this of course would lead to some problems).
Automatic start of data CDs is NOT prevented!
Bonus for Windows NT Users: If automatic start is activated, then if Feurio! has been started and a new audio CD is inserted, the CD-ROM which the CD has been inserted in is automatically selected as the copy source in the Feurio! CD Manager or Feurio! CD-Writer (If both CD Manager AND CD-Writer are active, then the most recently activated program module is used, i.e. if you were last using the Feurio! CD-Writer, then the new CD is given as the source for "CD-Copy". If you were last using the Feurio! CD-Manager, then the drive is activated as source in the Feurio! CD-Manager)

  • Button "Copy" in the CD-Player:
Improved CD-Player: In the CD-Player, the track which has just started being played can be copied into the current project by pressing a button!

  • FAQ totally reworked:
The "FAQ" catalog has been completely revised including both appearance and contents. The individual questions and answers have been divided into categories and each question/answer pair appears on its own page.
Many more new questions and answers have been included.
Please have a look through, comments are welcome!

  • Help files summarized:
So far every one of the 4 Feurio! modules (CD-Manager, CD-Writer, Track Editor and Cover Editor) has had its own help file. As requested by several users, the help files of the CD-Manager, CD-Writer and Track Editor have been put together to make one help file. From an operational point of view everything remains the same - the great advantage in doing this is that the full text search now finds key words from all texts.

  • Improvement CD/Wave-Player with more than 28 Tracks:
If the CD/Wave-Player is used with more than 28 Tracks, then as of now a scroll bar is displayed next to the track selection button; using this scroll bar other tracks can now be accessed directly.

  • Read speed for Device Test can be changed:
As of now the read speed for the Device Test can be changed - using this you can now determine, for example, if the CD-ROM reads better at a lower speed!

  • Nero 5.0 Images implemented:
Unfortunately the structure of the Nero images was changed, from now on Feurio! also accepts Nero 5.0 images!

  • Database display improved:
The database display has been improved, structuring the database entries is now carried out in an extra thread, so that the dialog box can also be used while the entries are being put together. This in particular improves the display of the CDDB database so that the very irritating "hang ups" which sometimes occurred when, for example, selecting the tree structure view, no longer occur!
This also makes the search function more useable.

  • Behavior in the case of defective MP3s improved:
Unfortunately many programs dont create correct mp3 files (i.e. for example, faulty tags are written or the frame structure is incorrect). The mp3 routines have now been made more robust against faulty mp3s so that Feurio! can now in many cases still decode the mp3s.

  • Odds & Ends:
Wave-Player: As of now the thread priority of the playback thread can be changed; furthermore a correction function for several faulty soundcard drivers has been installed.
Wave-Player: As of now the position can also be changed in pause mode; the track forward/back buttons also now work in pause mode.
Database view: Sorting the album/track list can now also be changed by clicking on the column title.
With Copy tracks / Pack tracks, target: "Harddisk path", stand-ins can also be used in setting the path, i.e. for example, the path can depend on the artist.
Drag & Drop from Explorer now also works with mp3 player lists (.mu3 files).
Speed set for TEAC 540: If the TEAC 540 is equipped with Firmware 3.0, then the speed can now be regulated from Feurio! (i.e. without the TEAC tool).
Menu: "Project Content", Entry: "Record audio data" implemented: Starts recording audio data from the soundcard with a click.
Menu: "CD-ROM", Entries accepted "Include CD in the request list again" and "Renewed CDDB request": These entries can be used to initiate a renewed CDDB request of a CD.
In the CDDB Settings Dialog outstanding requests can now be deleted
CDDB mode: "Manual trigger of the request" implemented:
For special applications (e.g. Router, which doesnt select automatically) an additional CDDB mode has been included in which the CDDB request can be triggered manually.

  • Error corrections:
Feurio! Track editor: Setting the start position of a track if in the background the overview files were being calculated sometimes caused a crash -> fixed.

Feurio! CD-Writer:

  • Burn-Proof implemented:
As of now Feurio! supports "Burn-Proof" (if supported by the recorder). "Burn-Proof" prevents a "Buffer-Underrun".
To activate "Burn-Proof", the professional mode has to activated first (Button "Expanded >>") and then set the switch "Burn-Proof".
    For further details, see: "Burn-Proof".

  • "Profi Mode" changed:
The main dialog now has got a new switch: "Expanded >>", this switch activates the professional mode. The switch under "Program parameters" -> "Special parameters" is thus unnecessary and has been removed.

  • Layout of main dialog changed:
The layout of the main dialog has been changed slightly.

  • New CD burners:
The following burners are now also supported:
    Plextor PX-RW1210 (12/10/32) (incl. CD-TEXT)
    Yamaha CRW 8824E (incl. CD-TEXT)
    Philips CDD 4801
    Philips PCRW804K
HP Surestore 9300i (incl. CD-TEXT) (without guarantee)
Support of this writer is provided without guarantee as HP could not manage to make a test model available to us, despite being asked to do so. Due to the lack of support from the manufacturer we can not guarantee that it will work correctly with Feurio!; for this reason we can unfortunately only advise against using Feurio! if you buy this writer!
Goldstar 8080B (incl. CD-TEXT) (without guarantee)
Support of this writer is provided without guarantee as Goldstar could not manage to make a test model available to us, despite being asked to do so. Due to the lack of support from the manufacturer we can not guarantee that it will work correctly with Feurio!; for this reason we can unfortunately only advise against using Feurio! if you buy this writer!
    Memorex CD-RW4224 (incl. CD-TEXT)

  • Plexwriter 412/820 and CD-TEXT:
We have actually managed to burn with the Plexwriter 412/820 CD-TEXT using a special trick.
Note: This ONLY works with firmware version 1.07!
CAUTION: Even with firmware 1.07, the Plexwriter 412 or 820 doesnt burn CD-TEXT correctly - many CD players and even some CD-ROMs can not read the CD text written with a Plexwriter 412 or 820!

  • Mitsumi 4802 and CD-TEXT:
As of now CD-TEXT can also be burned with the Mitsumi 4802.
CAUTION: The Mitsumi 4802 doesnt support CD-TEXT 100% correctly, sometimes other CD-ROMs or CD-Players can not read the CD-TEXT information correctly!

  • Odds & Ends:
    CD-TEXT switch changed:
The switch "Write CD-Text data" lead to a misunderstanding with many users. So far it has only been possible to select the switch if the writer is able to write CD-Text AND CD-Text data patterns (i.e. burning a project, copying a CD-Text CD or copying a CD present in the database). Many users have now complained that they couldnt select CD-Text, even though their writer was able to write CD-Text. To avoid this "Misunderstanding", we have now changed it slightly: The switch "Write CD-Text data" can ALWAYS be activated if the writer supports CD-Text. If the burning process is started and there is no CD-Text information available, then a notification message appears.

  • Error corrections:
    Sony 120E / HP 8200:
On some systems Feurio! got stuck while writing the Leadin. Although the cause of the error can be found in the system drivers (so it is not really Feurio!s fault), we have found a way to circumvent the command which caused it to get stuck. So from now on, Feurio! should be able to write on all systems on the Sony 120E / HP 8200i without any problems
If burning on several writers has been selected and the number of copies set so that for the last write process there is only one CD left to be burned, (e.g. 7 copies, burned on 3 writers) Feurio! crashed -> fixed!
Creation of an image from a CD on which Track 1, Index 1 was NOT in the "normal" start position (00:02:00) did not work if copying index marks was deactivated -> fixed

Error corrections were carried out for the following writers:
    Mitsumi 4801
Corrected: Unfortunately we did not have a test model of this writer available so that we could not test version 1.32 properly with this recorder - unfortunately these recorders did not work correctly any more -> fixed
