Feurio Questions & Answers - Explanation of Terminology:
Table of Contents (TOC).

The "Table of Contents" (TOC) is the central "index" of every CD. The TOC contains the start positions of the individual Tracks on the CD.
In principle the TOC is just a simple table in the shape of:
Track 1: Position 02:03:30
Track 2: Position 07:34:34
Track 3: Position 11:23:45
End of CD: Position 14:45:24

An audio CD player reads the TOC when the CD is inserted and then "knows" where the individual tracks start and how long the CD is.

Note on data CDs:
On data CDs, the TOC only contains a reference to the data tracks. The CD table of contents as it can still be viewed in Explorer (i.e. the individual files) is stored in further structures within the data track.

The TOC is saved in the Leadin area. On a Multisession CD in every Leadin of every session there is a new TOC.
