Image Copy

In opposite to an "on-the-fly copy" the image copy will produce an image of the CD on the hard disk. Only after the image has been built completely, the burn process is started.

Advantages of image copy:
no "burned" CD-R, if something goes wrong while reading the source CD or the CD-ROM reduces the read speed due to e. g. scratches.
(Especially with IDE CD-Writers/ CD-ROMs): No problems with "collisions" between CD-ROM and CD-Writer.
continous reading: On an image copy the CD is read in one piece - many CD-ROMs only read correct data when reading continously.
the source CD can be removed after image buildingn therefore the source drive can be used for other purposes
if the image is not deleted after the write process, you can write additional copies later without requiring the source CD

Disadvantages of a image copy:
it takes longer (FIRST the image is build and then burned)
a lot of hard disk space is required for storing the image
