CD-Extra
A CD-Extra is a special "Multi-session
CD". It contains exactly 2 sessions: - 1.
session: Audio data
The 1. session contains the "normal" audio
data of the CD.
- 2. session: CD-ROM data
The 2. Session contains the computer data.
A CD-Extra has got the great advantage, that an audio CD-Player is not multi-session
capable - it will only recognize the first session and will not find the data
track - after the audio tracks the CD is finished for an audio CD-Player.
In opposition to a "normal" "Mixed-mode CD"
the data track does not "disturb" playing the CD in a "normal" CD-Player.
However, the computer identifies the CD as a "Multi-session
CD" and loads the data from the last session (the 2. sessison), thus showing
the data stored in this session.
So a CD-Extra is "perfect" if you want to store both music and computer data
on one CD, without the computer data "disturbing" a "normal" audio CD-Player.
Often a CD-Extra is used to hide a video clip (e.g. in AVI or Quicktime format)
or other gimmicks on a "normal" album!
NOTE:
The Windows Explorer only recognizes the 2. session of a CD-Extra CD, i. e. it
only shows the data track but not the audio tracks - so don't be surprised if
the Explorer only shows some data files but no audio tracks on a CD-Extra.
However, Feurio!® recognizes the audio tracks of a CD-Extra, too, therefore
reading the audio tracks is possible.
