Explanation
Of The Single Terms:
- Name:
The name of the CD-Writer - Device-ID:
The device ID of the CD-ROM. The device ID is the "internal" name
of the writer. The writer reports this name to the computer, the computer (and
all applications too) identify the CD-ROM by this device ID. Feurio! shows the
device ID e.g. within Feurio! CD-Manager in the CD-ROM selection dialog. The
device ID is also reported by the Windows Control Panel: Open the Device Manager
and expand the "CD-ROM" branch - the device IDs of all attached CD-ROMs
and CD-Writers are displayed here. - Interface:
Interface of the CD-Writer (SCSI or IDE) - Recording Speed CD-R:
The recording speed steppings the CD-Writer supports with "normal"
CD-Rs (not rewritable CDs). - Recording Speed CD-RW:
If the writer supports CD-RWs (rewritable CDs), the recording speed steppings
the writer supports are displayed here.
Note: You need to use special CD-RWs to write with 4x speed. These media has
to be additionally marked as as usable for "4x"!
Note: Many CD-Writers does not support single-speed writing on CD-RWs, so the
step "1x" is not shown then! - Buffer:
The recorders buffer memory size in kbytes.
The usable buffer size of some writers may differ from the size of physical
memory. The information is shown as "<Usable buffer memory> / <Physical
buffer memory>" then. - Index Marks:
Yes: The CD-Writer is capable of writing index marks. - UPC:
Yes: The CD-Writer is capable of writing UPC-Codes (Universal Product Code).
- ISRC:
Yes: The CD-Writer is capable of writing ISRC-Codes (International Standard
Recording Code). - Read Recorder Buffer Occupancy:
Yes: Feurio! can read and display the recorder buffer capacity during the recording.
This is espcially useful in simulation mode, because it shows whether the recording
is going "fine" or if a buffer underrun could be just prevented. - Burn
80-Minutes CD-Rs
Yes: The writer is capable of burning 80-minutes CD-Rs (oversize). For additional
information please see: "Frquently
Asked Questions - Burning 80-minutes CD-Rs".
ATTENTION: This may change after a firmware update. If this field reads "No"
this this may be changed with a firmware update - if a new firmware with this
feature is available, please send us a feedback - and pleasee do not forget to
include the firmware version!
"Yes" refers to - otherwise stated - the current firmware version.
If you´re using a writer with an old firmware version, you should consider
updating the firmware. - Burn 90/99-Minutes CD-Rs
Yes: The writer is capable of burning 90/99-minutes CDs (oversize).
To xx:xx: The writer can burn 90/99-minutes only up to this capacity.
For additional information please see "Frequently
Asked Questions - Burning 90/99-minutes CD-Rs".
- Overburning:
Yes: The CD-Writer is capable of overburning, i. e. it can write more information
to the CD-R than it´s "official" capacity. E.g. 77 minutes on
a 74-minutes CD-R or 82 minutes on a 80-minutes CD-R.
While "overburning" the CD-Writer is operated beyond its specification,
some single devices of a production and especially certain firmware versions
may not allow "overburning". - Test CD-R Capacity
Feurio!® provides a feature to achieve the maximum possible recording time
of a CD-R (for "overburning").
Unfortunately this does not work properly with all CD-Writers. Only if "Yes"
is stated here, the CD-Writer supports the capacity test. - Read
Manufacturer Code:
Yes: The CD-Writer is capable of reading the manufacturer code of the inserted
CD-R, therefore Feurio! is able to display the manufacturer of the CD-R.
To prevent misunderstandings: The manufacturer is NOT determined by the maximum
lead-out position (the size of the CD-R). Each CD-R contains a field with a numeric
code of the CD-R´s manufacturer. This code is identical on all CD-Rs of
one manufacturer!
Feurio!® can read this field (if supported by the writer) and show the manufacturer´s
name (if the code is known to Feurio!®).
Note: Some CD-Writers support reading the manufacturer code only from an EMPTY
CD-R. Reading the code from an already written CD is only possible if the writer
supports "Reading ATIP Information" - this information can be found
some columns to the right. - Write
CD-Text:
Yes: The CD-Writer is capable of writing CD-Text
information. For further information about CD-Text
please see: "CD-Text".
The addition "FW: x.xx" means, that from this firmware version on the writer
is capable of writing CD-Text. If your writer has an older firmware version,
you have to update the writer´s firmware first. - Burn
Data-CDs With Feurio!
Yes: Feurio! Professional
supports writing Data-CDs with this writer.
Note: Of course each writer supports burning Data-CDs. If this field reads "No"
this ONLY means, that Feurio! does not support burning Data-CDs with this recorder.
This is only the case with some older CD-Writers where the manufacturer uses
an own command set and we haven´t got this command set. In particular we
don´t have any test devices available, so we could not check correct operation.
Burning Data-CDs is supported with all current CD-Writers! - Leave
CD Open:
Yes: The writer supports "Session-at-Once" recording, i.e. the CD will not be
finalized; ANOTHER program can write a further session (e.g. the data track of
a CD-Extra) to the CD.
NOTE: Feurio! is not able to write to this CD anymore - an Audio-CD player will
always ONLY recognize the 1ST SESSION of a CD - it would be useless to write
another session containing audio with Feurio! then - therefore this option is
simply unavailable. - Burn-Proof:
Yes: The CD-Writer supports Burn-Proof,
i.e. it can write without buffer underrun. For further information about Burn-Proof
please see: "Burn-Proof".
- Burn Audio CD-Rs:
Besides the "normal" CD-Rs there are also special "Audio CD-Rs"
available. These CD-Rs differ from the "normal" CD-Rs this way the
manufacturer has paid a "license fee" for it. The manufaturer prints
a special code on the CD, indicating that a "license fee" has been
paid for this CD. HiFi CD-Recorders check this and allow burning only if they
find this license code.
This code - therefore Audio CD-Rs - has no importance for computer CD-Writers.
To prevent misunderstandings: Audio CD-Rs are not "better" than normal
CD-Rs! NO better sound quality will be achieved by using Audio CD-Rs instead
of normal CD-Rs of the same type.
Unfortunately some CD-Writers "fall out of step" by this license code
- they are not able to write Audio CD-Rs!
If it reads "No" here, the writer is unfortunately unable to write
Audio CD-Rs! - Track 1, Index 1 > 00:03:00:
An Audio-CD always starts with track 1, index 0. Track1, index 1 usually follows
at the absolute position 00:02:00 (minutes:seconds:fraction).
The special thing about this is, that the CD-Player ALWAYS starts with track
1, index 1 and all positions are shown relative to track 1, index 1, too, i.e.
the absolute CD position of 00:02:00 is shown as 00:00 on the display!
The "funny thing" about this is, that if you burn a CD with track
1, index 1 on e.g. the absolute position 02:00:00, the CD-Player will start on
position 02:00:00 - and displays it as position 00:00! Only when you press the
"Rewind" button the area BEFORE track 1, index 1 is played (most CD-Players
will show a negative time). This way a "hidden" bonus track can be
realized!
ATTENTION: The "Red Book" (the standard for Audio-CDs) says that track
1, index 1 has to be between 00:02:00 and 00:03:00. Therefore some CD-Recorders
refuse (strictly speaking correct) to burn such CD-Rs.
If this field reads "No", the CD-Writer is nnot able to burn such
CDs. As mentioned above this is NO error, the recorder just sticks exactly to
the CD standard.
"Yes" means the CD-Writer can burn such CDs - but as mentioned a non-standard
CD will be produced and therefore it´s not guaranteed the CD will be played
correctly everywhere!
Note: With Feurio! you can produce these CDs yourself: In Feurio! Trackeditor
execute the function "Set Special Index-0 Mark" (menu: Actions) within
the first track - for further information see the online help of Feurio! Trackeditor!
- Read Atip Information:
The ATIP area of a CD-R contains some information about the CD-R (e.g. manufacturer
code and possible information about the maximum usable recording speed).
If "Yes" is stated here, the writer is capable of reading these ATIP
information and returning it to Feurio! - in particular this means that Feurio!
can report the manufacturer code of an already burned CD-R. If this entry reads
"No", this does not necessarily mean, that the CD-Writer doesn´t
maybe utilize this information internally - it only means the CD-Writer does
not return the information - and Feurio! can not display it! - State
Of Implantation In Feurio:
States how good the writer is implemented in Feurio! Unfortunately we are not
able to completely implement some CD-Writers in Feurio!, because some manufacturer
are not interested in cooperating with us! - Web Links:
This column contains - if known to us - links to information or firmware updates
of the manufacturer for this CD-Writer.
